Storytelling Coach
The Welcome Home Coalition is seeking Volunteer Coaches who are committed to Welcome Home’s mission and vision. Volunteer Coaches will be working alongside and supporting our housing advocates going through our Storytelling Training. The Coaches will attend all leadership and advocacy trainings, facilitated by the Organizer, and provide one on one support and encouragement, in addition to the trainings, to advocates in their cohort.
The goal of the Advocacy Trainings is to empower community members to share their stories publicly, especially with public officials and the media, and become involved as advocates themselves. Welcome Home will provide opportunities for debriefing, support, and supervision to coaches, as well as provide and coordinate office space, supplies, and logistics for all trainings and coaching sessions.
Welcome Home is committed to racial equity and affirmatively furthering fair housing. Volunteer coaches will be expected to contribute towards creating anti-racist spaces.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Able to donate 5 to 10 hours per month;
- Build relationships with community members;
- Able to work with 1 to 3 tenants;
- Commit to six months to one year of service;
- Are available for scheduled coaching sessions with assigned advocate trainees.
Skills & Experience
- Public speaking and facilitating skills
- Ability to build relationships with individuals and communities of diverse ethnicities, cultures, abilities, faiths, and economic backgrounds
- Experience providing peer support, mentorship, or advocacy (case management).
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Regional Organizer and advocates
- Being multilingual/ESL is a plus!
