Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our first housing summit! It was an inspiring day to learn about & reflect on successful solutions. We are so thankful for our community of advocates who joined us to learn from experts from across the U.S. about proven, human-centered approaches to address our region’s need for housing that works for all our neighbors. For those who were unable to attend, we are excited to share a video of both panels along with our panelist slides.

Our first panel was ‘Social Housing in the US.’ Social Housing is a model of affordable housing historically implemented abroad. During the panel, we heard from a local expert, Portland’s new Housing Bureau Director, along with panelists from Maryland and Seattle, where different models of affordable housing have budding success.

In our second panel, we heard from experts on the implementation and success of the Housing First model. All panelists highlighted how Housing First does not mean only providing four walls and a roof. Among other core values, the true implementation of housing first means client choice and available, ongoing support for people transitioning back into permanent housing.

We spent the second half of the day hosting an all-coalition meeting where members had robust conversations about solutions and moving forward together. Finally, we closed out the day by participating in the National Week of Action against punitive approaches to homelessness by writing postcards to the Portland City Council – urging them to instead invest in proven solutions, like the ones we learned more about throughout the day.

The day left us feeling inspired about harnessing our collective power to ensure that there is truly safe, affordable housing for all in our region. Thank you to all who joined! And of course, thank you to our sponsors, along with individuals who donated to support the event! We could not have done this without you!
