Last month, we released our new report, created in partnership with Sisters of the Road – Finding Home: Lasting Solutions Rooted in Community Expertise. We were so grateful to all the housing champions who came out not only to celebrate, but to take action for housing justice.

Finding Home captures the voices of people experiencing homelessness in the Portland Region. The findings are clear — 91% of respondents said they would move into housing if they could afford it. Respondents also strongly preferred apartments or houses over shelters or living outside. The report confirmed that we need a housing and support service-focused response to homelessness. Ultimately, a shelter bed is not a home.

As part of this work, we produced a short film featuring the stories of people with lived experiences of homelessness. It was an honor to sit down and listen to the voices that know the solutions that will actually reduce homelessness.

We have collected over 1,000 petition signatures to advance solutions supported by the Finding Home Report! Our goal is 5,000 signatures. Thank you to everyone who has already signed! Follow the link below to join this action and share resources!

We all want to see everyone have a safe place to call home. You can take action today to ensure our leaders invest in the resources that move people from tents and shelters into housing with meaningful support. The City of Portland is spending more than ever on sweeps and the expansions of night-only shelters. Our leaders can do better. Rent assistance and the support of people with lived experience are proven solutions that are going underfunded locally. Join us by signing the petition to ask local leaders to redirect funding away from sweeps and shelters toward solutions backed by Finding Home.
